The Secret to Success in Home Buying (It’s Not What You Think)

mortgage expert sharing how relentless positivity leads to success in home buying and homeownership

Before we talk rates, down payments, or credit scores, I want to share something more important.

If you’d rather watch this one, here’s the full video where I explain it in real time:

(And if these kinds of conversations help you, make sure you subscribe — I share real-world mortgage advice and mindset tools every week.)

Now let’s talk about it.

Relentless Positivity.

That’s it.

That’s the secret.

It’s the secret to my business success.
It’s the secret to how I approach obstacles in lending.
It’s the secret to how I’ve navigated my own home-buying journey.

And it’s something I didn’t consciously identify until recently.

What This Has to Do With Home Buying

You might be thinking, “Okay, Jen, this sounds motivational… but how does this help me buy a house?”

Here’s how.

Buying a home is emotional. It’s stressful. It can feel discouraging.

  • The first house falls through.

  • The inspection comes back ugly.

  • The appraisal is low.

  • A lender tells you “no.”

  • The area you thought you loved doesn’t work.

A lot of people stop there.

They close off.
They get angry.
They get resentful.
They decide “this just isn’t for me.”

But the people who win?
They stay open.

They don’t accept the obstacle as final.
They ask, “Okay… what’s the next step?”

That shift alone changes everything.

My Most Recent Home Search

We looked in at least ten different towns in Florida.

Ten.

Either:

  • The geography didn’t feel right

  • The airport didn’t work for my husband

  • It wasn’t close enough to the beach

  • It didn’t feel like “home”

It would have been easy to quit.

Instead, we stayed open.

Someone casually mentioned Amelia Island and the Jacksonville area — somewhere I hadn’t even considered.

We went.
We explored.
We stayed light, bright, and open.

And I found the house I love more than any other house I’ve owned.

I would have missed it if I had closed off after the fifth “no.”

I’ve Seen This With Clients Too

One client always stands out in my mind.

When she first found me:

  • No job

  • Terrible credit

  • No money

Three years later:

  • Stable job

  • Good credit

  • Savings

  • Bought a house

The difference?

She never went to the dark place of “I’ll never get there.”

She stayed relentlessly positive.

Not delusional.
Not ignoring reality.
Just open to the next move.

This Applies to More Than Just Houses

I see it in business.
I see it in finances.
I see it in homeownership.

The people who succeed don’t scream at obstacles.

They say:

“Okay. What do I need to adjust?”
“What’s the next move?”
“Who can help me think differently?”

Even when I look at problems in this industry — like predatory lending — I don’t stay angry.

I think:
“How do we fix this?”
“We educate.”
“We shine light.”
“We show the right way.”

Light beats dark every time.

If You’re Feeling Discouraged

If you’re:

  • Tired of house hunting

  • Frustrated with rates

  • Feeling like “only rich people can buy homes”

  • Or just overwhelmed

Pause.

Don’t shut down.

Ask:
“How can I approach this with openness instead of frustration?”

Sometimes the solution isn’t where you thought it would be.
Sometimes the right area isn’t on your original list.
Sometimes the “no” is just redirecting you.

Relentless positivity isn’t fluffy.
It’s strategic.

It keeps you moving forward when other people stop.

Why This Matters Financially

The most financially successful homeowners I work with?

They:

  • Compare lenders

  • Ask questions

  • Learn from mistakes

  • Pivot quickly

  • Don’t take rejection personally

They don’t collapse when something doesn’t go perfectly.

They adjust.

That’s how you protect your equity.
That’s how you build wealth.
That’s how you win long-term.
